Kotor Cable Car

View from the Kotor cable car

What a night last night!

As Leslie said, we stayed up pretty late last night soaking in the music and atmosphere of the big Boka festival here in Kotor. The girls were absolutely enthralled with it, and would have stayed up indefinitely had we let them. :)

So today, somewhat out of necessity, was a bit more of a low-key kind of day. However that suited us just fine.

After a late breakfast featuring some delicious (albeit pricey) pastries from a local bakery, Rosie and I went out for a little stroll around the old town. Her objectives were twofold: to buy a little souvenir bracelet that she had spotted yesterday in a local shop, and to pet as many cats as possible on the way.  I agreed to go on the condition that we would wander around and explore a little if something caught our eye.

As it happened, we spotted some stairs that led up to the top of the walls surrounding the old city. While they did not have the height and scale of the Dubrovnik walls, they were far less crowded and provided a unique view of the town and the harbour just outside the walls. And as it so happened, we came across a restaurant at the top of the wallsm, had a look at the menu, and decided it would be a good spot to have dinner tonight.

Zoe meanwhile has been enjoying sitting in her "perch" in our second-story window (or what Europeans would call the first floor) and alternating between people-watching, sketching, journaling, and going downstairs to sample the ice cream (she has proclaimed raspberry her favourite).

Later in the afternoon Leslie took Rosie out to see the local "cat museum." I am not exactly sure what to make of the photos. :)

Around 6pm we hopped in our rental car and took a short drive just outside of town to the Kotor cable car. After a short line to buy tickets (both the automated kiosk and the website were not working), we hopped in the next open car, which we had to ourselves. The ride to the top only takes about ten minutes, and we timed it perfectly to enjoy a stunning sunset view over the Bay of Kotor far below.

On the return trip we had a fantastic view of Kotor as the city lights started coming on after sunset.

After our short drive back to the old town, we parked our rental car and wandered over to the restaurant that Rosie and I spotted earlier - Cattaro - where we were fortunate to score a table right along the walls overlooking the harbour. All in all it was a relaxing and very enjoyable day.
